I had the opportunity to attend the Microsoft Leadership Conclave in New Delhi on the 3rd and 4th of February. As part of a session titled “Harnessing Disruption“, Kurt DelBene spoke about the major trends that are affecting productivity in the workplace. Kurt DelBene is responsible for driving Microsoft’s global productivity strategy for information workers. DelBene oversees the engineering and marketing functions for a wide range of productivity products and services, including Office, Exchange, SharePoint, Lync, Project, Visio, and Microsoft’s speech technology investments. Here are some of the trends leading to a demanding environment for CIOs today: 1) Consumerization of IT
  • 11% of Information workers visit social networking sites for work.
2) Infrastructure Cost and Complexity
  • 70% of IT budgets spent on maintaining inflexible data center equipment.
3) Multi-Generational Workforce
  • Four million millennials  (born between 1980 and 2000) enter the workforce every year.
4) Mobile and Distributed Work
  • 84% of organizations have a remote workforce.
5) Rise of the Cloud
  • 80% of IT managers will be evaluating cloud computing this year.
